As a ‘First Timer’ at PASS Summit in Seattle 2017, both as attendees and Sponsor, we are very happy with the event. There were many good and inspiring sessions covering several different tools and technologies in the Microsoft platform.
We found there were a lot of interest in Xpert BI, being an automation tool for ETL processes, which a lot of companies have struggles with maintaining. We met ETL and BI Developers, DBAs and other database professionals who had never heard about us and were curious about our product.
We also had some navy blue Xpert BI T-shirts to hand out – these were really popular and we were out of T-shirts Friday morning.
Our next stop is Barcelona for the Gartner Symposium 2017.
This was BI Builders’ first time as a sponsor for SQL Saturday in Oslo. SQL Saturday is a training event for SQL Server professionals and those wanting to learn about SQL Server. The event turnout was impressive and the sessions had a good variety and content. SQL Saturday is clearly an event where we as Microsoft BI Professionals can meet our equals and learn and discuss detailed technical solutions. Even though the exhibitor area was in a separate room, the raffle tickets made sure the attendees visited the sponsors. We talked with several BI Developers who valued Data Warehouse Automation as a way of solving both development and maintenance issues.
Several of the sessions also focused on Azure, both services (SaaS) and VM (IaaS), and looked at some of the possibilities and limitations of the various solutions and platforms. Issues with migrating solutions to the cloud, handling data loads, automating DevOps for data warehouse migrations were also discussed. And of course, sessions on Power BI administration and best practice around reports, dashboards, workspaces and content.
We got a lot of valuable technical input and inspiration, and found SQL Saturday useful as both an educational and a networking arena.
Congratulations to Håkon Neset from NAF with the Grand Prize in our PlayStation VR Luge competition at the Make Data Smart Again conference. His time was 1:50:01 which showed impossible to beat.
We are glad that NAF showed us both how to drive fast and safe even in a VR environment.
The grand prize was a gift certificate to an electronic store, and we threw in a pair of Google cardboard VR glasses too.
Hope we get to see you racing down a hill in VR next time!
There was a good attendance at today’s lunch seminar showing Xpert BI and Power BI at Microsoft Lysaker location. The attendees ranged from technical to C-Level and the presentations and demonstrations covered both strategical and technical aspects of the theme “Releasing the power of your data”
Enda Flynn and Espen Dahl from Microsoft together with Kristian Hjelseth and Espen Langbråten from BI Builders explained the various considerations and possibilities with implementing analytic platforms in today’s wide variety of choices of tools and technologies.
Espen focused on the importance of “PREP” i.e. preparing the data for analytics, both when it comes to data quality and when integrating cross applications and technologies.
Being a Silver partner, we were excited to see what this year’s sold out Gartner Analytics summit would bring. It all started with a solution provider and analyst networking reception Sunday evening, followed by 3 days of talking with hundreds of attendees curious to hear about Xpert BI.
The event had both many customers and partners, and BI Builders was a proud Silver partner. Above, Jarle and Espen by the entrance to the Solution Showcase
Monday and Tuesday evening there was a networking reception for all attendees in the Solution Showcase room. The different solution providers had different foods, drinks and entertainment. At out booth we served refreshing cold beer and tacos to potential partners and customers.
On Tuesday, over 130 attendees listened to BI Builders’ talk on the topic “To be or not to be for the Data Warehouse”, and we got a really good response after, where customers recognized the scenarios and issues with the traditional development approach. And how their Data Warehouse solutions now struggled to keep up with the analytic needs in the organization.
We also attended some of the sessions and had a few 1-to-1 meetings with Gartner Analysts. This has given us ideas on both product development and marketing strategies.
What we will take away from this summit is that many organisations struggle with the basics when it comes to BI and Analytics; Releasing the power of the data. And – the data warehouse is still a crucial part of the analytic platform.
Being a part of a combined technology event with over 5000 visitors, two days at BigDataWorld has given us a high exposure. We have talked to a lot of people, both potential customers and partners visiting the BI Builders stand.
With all the focus being on BigData analytics, Espen held a session on how to prepare for the growing analytic needs.
Next up is Gartner Analytics Summit London, starting on Monday 20 March.
